Using the forms to the left of the map on the home page of this site, you can find many different types of food places in New Orleans. We hope you find this tool both powerful and easy to use.
The first form can be used to place an icon on the map for a familiar location of your choice. The icon for this place will be orange. You can leave this icon on the map throughout various searches you do for food places. It is meant to help provide you with a customized reference point.
To use this form, simply type in an address (you only need to enter the street number and street name, such as 1500 n claiborne) and click the Show button. After a moment, an orange icon will appear on the map. If you hover your mouse pointer over the icon, you will see the place's address (clicking on this icon has no effect). When you no longer wish to see your reference point on the map, simply click the Clear button and it will disappear.
The second form is longer, but is still easy to use. This form will allow you to search for food places in a particular ZIP code. Start by selecting the ZIP code you wish to search. Next, check the boxes next to the types of places you'd like to find in that ZIP code (or just click choose all to choose them all). Lastly, click the Show Places button. After a moment or two, you should see a blue outline on the map, showing you the boundaries of the ZIP code you specified. If there are any places of the types you asked to locate, they will appear on the map, their icons matching the colors shown next to their names in the form. A notification will appear if, within the ZIP code you chose, there are currently no places of the type(s) you asked to locate.
Once the icons appear on the map, you can hover your mouse pointer over each to see the name of the place. For more information, you can click on an icon.
In addition to the ZIP-code specific searches, you can also search the whole city for three types of places: large food stores, emergency relief with hot meals and emergency relief with a food pantry. To do this, simply select the city-wide only option from the choose a zip code list. Choose which of these three special types you'd like to find and then click the Show Places button.
If, at any time, you wish to clear the map, click the Reset Map button.
